INVITATION

Dear all,

I am writing to invite you to the Third International Music Encounter of Artendins (http://www.artendins.com/)  which will be offering several classical concerts  from 5 to 10 July at the Centre de Cultura Sa Nostra. Admission is free. Young internationally renowned pianists and violinists will be performing. For the closing concert of 11 July, Artendins has organized a spectacular event: concert at the iconic Tower of Canyamel (www.torredecanyamel.com) with the participation of the professors of the encounter (Dina Parakhina, piano professor from the Royal College of Music in London and Yuri Torchinsky, violin concertmaster of the BBC Philharmonic and professor at the Royal Northern College of Music) and of the brightest students of the course. After the concert there will be a dinner at a fantastic Mallorcan restaurant near the Tower of Canyamel. The total price of the concert plus dinner is 22 euros. This price also includes a round trip bus ride from Palma to Canyamel. It really is worth it! For the latter event, if you are interested and can come, you could confirm your attendance via answering e-mail:  rgelabert64@gmail.com or sending one to Artendins: artendins@gmail.com so we can do the final booking for the bus and restaurant.  Please RSVP by 5:00 Monday, July 9th.

I have attached all the information about the concerts and, of course, with the menu offered in the restaurant in Canyamel.

I’d love to see you if you can make it!

Best wishes,

Rachel

TEST 2 CAE (MOCK EXAM FOR EASTER)

Dear all,

How are you doing? I'm slowly recovering and hopefully I'll be back by the end of April. I've scanned and uploaded a CAE mock exam with its key for you to do during Easter if you find time, which I hope you do. The two writing options are a proposal and a report, so please do look at page 200 and 201 from your Ready for CAE book for guidelines. I've also uploaded further writing tips which you can peruse and get ideas from.

I'm really sorry for the classes you have missed... I'll certainly try my very best to come back full of energy to get you through the end of the course. Miss you all!

Take care,

Raquel

COMPOSITIONS

Dear students,

Since time flies and there is so much to do, we must try to work as much as we can. I'm going to release the writing tasks for units 3 and 4 so that each of you can feel free to carry them out as soon as you feel you are ready. I'm not going to set any deadline for the writings. In fact, you can hand me as many compositions during the course as you wish; the only condition is that you deliver them handwritten. I forward you lots of energy and enthusiasm too! :)

UNIT 3: PROPOSAL

Watch the first ten TV adverts in the playlist above, then write a report for an international research company about the different kinds of TV adverts you can find. You should at least include:
  • some of the positive and negative aspects of each type of TV advertising you have come across.
  • say how effective these TV adverts are.
  • suggest one or two changes which could be introduced to counter the negative aspects.

How to write a report
You will find samples of reports on pages 34 and 201 in Ready for CAE.

UNIT 4: CHARACTER REFERENCE LETTER

One of your classmates sees this advert on the British Council website ( www.britishcouncil.org/languageassistants-fla.htm):

Have you ever wanted to teach abroad and improve your English? Can you think of classroom activities that would help students in the UK to improve their language skills? If so, the Foreign Language Assistants programme might be for you.
Your role will be to work with the teacher in the classroom or on your own with small groups of students in order to help them gain confidence in your language. It is also a good chance for them to learn more about the culture in your country.
If you are a language assistant wishing to teach Spanish in the UK, you must apply to the office in your home country:

Ms Conchita Hernandez
Ministerio de Educación
Subdireccion General de Cooperacion Internacional
Paseo del Prado 28-2
28014 Madrid
Spain

You will need to send the application form and at least one character reference letter.

YOUR TASK:

Your classmate asks you to write the character reference letter for him. Use 230-260 words.

How to write a character reference letter

Here you have useful language for your character reference letter:
